How I Got My Start
It was in third grade. The teacher was heaping praise on a friend for writing a poem. The jealous nine-year-old in me thought, I can do better than that. And the next day I did. The poem was called "Voices." I'm sure my mother still has it somewhere...
A Budding Flower
In my junior year of high school, we started a literary magazine, Amaranth. I was relieved, because journalism and the school newspaper wasn't for me. Although my story "Annette" didn't win first place in the short story contest, I felt a deep sense of satisfication when the faculty advisor told me this was the one story the typing class stayed late to finish. They had divided up the pages and they all had to see how it ended before they went home.In college, I did win a scholarship award for my short fiction, "Every Housewife's Dream." Can you imagine an award winning piece with a title like that today???
In Full Bloom
After 20 years of a successful career in medical writing/health communications, I still had all sorts of manuscripts in various stages languishing around. The Fiction Siren is singing to me again so I've gathered up my stories, polished them up, and have begun sailing the stormy sea of romantic fiction.
